itch.io will soon let you filter games with genAI disclosures out of your search results on the site, after admitting it was previously "critically lacking"

itch.io will expand mandatory genAI disclosures and add filtering tools to combat an influx of AI-generated content on the platform.

The site revealed that game pages created per day doubled over the past two months. itch.io previously required genAI disclosure only for game assets. Starting soon, the platform will mandate disclosure for tabletop games, books, comics, and soundtracks that use generative AI.

A new search filter will let users exclude games with genAI disclosures from results. itch.io acknowledged that voluntary disclosure has been "critically lacking" as a solution to the problem.

The platform joins Steam in struggling with high volumes of AI-generated content drowning out human-made games.
