Nintendo's second quarter fiscal earnings report shows software sales lifted by strong performer Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, which sold 8.81 million units in the three months ending September 30, 2026. Switch 2 software sales jumped 18.8 percent year-on-year to 24.49 million units, while Switch 1 software increased 6.8 percent. Digital game sales rose 60.5 percent year-on-year.

Hardware sales fell sharply. Switch 2 units dropped 37.4 percent to 6.49 million, and original Switch sales fell 32.7 percent to 1.27 million compared to the same period last year. Nintendo had forecast this decline and still expects to sell 16.50 million Switch 2 units by fiscal year end.

Rhythm Heaven Groove sold 2.89 million units. Splatoon Raiders, the only Switch 2 exclusive among the top sellers, moved 2.42 million. The software surge and "continued weakness of the Yen" were not enough to prevent overall business decline of 15.3 percent year-on-year.

Nintendo's remaining releases this fiscal year include The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, Switch 2 re-releases of Pikmin 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and Metroid Ravenous, arriving early 2027.
