Zach Cregger's Resident Evil movie earned over $400 million globally, becoming the most successful entry in the franchise. The film arrives on digital purchase and rental November 3, with a Blu-ray physical release to follow later. It will eventually reach Netflix under the companies' existing deal.

Netflix added Paul W.S. Anderson's original Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Apocalypse to its lineup, joining Resident Evil: Afterlife, Resident Evil: Retribution, Resident Evil: Extinction, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, and the 2022 Resident Evil TV series already available on the platform.

The new Resident Evil movie is returning to IMAX and other premium large format screens while it remains in theaters.

Cregger co-wrote and directed the film. He acknowledged backlash from hardcore gamers and said he should have known fans of the games wouldn't embrace his ideas. After release, Cregger felt "gratified" by the critical and commercial response. He stated he has ideas for more Resident Evil movies but won't pursue them, focusing instead on original, non-franchise films. His next project is The Flood, a sci-fi film starring Jennifer Lawrence.
