Rockstar's GTA 6 has sold 7.71 million units through pre-purchases, generating $751 million in gross revenue, according to research firm Sensor Tower. PS5 dominates the split with 5.74 million sales (74 percent) compared to 1.97 million on Xbox Series X|S (26 percent). PS5 revenue reached $559 million while Xbox Series X|S brought in $192 million.
The sales split mirrors the broader console market, where PS5 leads Xbox Series X|S. Microsoft stated GTA 6 is breaking records on Xbox despite the lower volume. Sony holds marketing rights for the PS5 version, though Microsoft recently announced a GTA 6-inspired custom Xbox console housed in an alligator.
Sensor Tower projects as many as 25 million total pre-purchases by launch. If the current 74/26 split holds, that would mean approximately 18.5 million units on PS5 and 6.5 million on Xbox Series X|S.
Purchase intent data from Circana shows 29 percent of US console and PC gamers plan to buy GTA 6, the highest purchase intent Circana has ever measured for any game.
GTA 6 launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game requires 212GB of storage and preloading begins more than a week before launch. The game unlocks at midnight local time on November 19, meaning New Zealand players will access it first globally.
