Bungie will not announce Destiny 3 at The Game Awards this year, head of product Josh Deane stated. The studio is in early stages of developing its next Destiny game and does not plan to "randomly drop a logo that sets the world on fire right away," according to Deane.
Bungie secured initial greenlight in June to begin scoping work on its future Destiny project. A yet-to-be-revealed studio will assist with reviving Destiny legacy content. The team is currently in pre-production and proof-of-work stages, expected to last until January or February. Full production will then take approximately 12 months to complete the porting process, Deane said.
Players can anticipate anchor events in Destiny 2, including a new celebration similar to Moments of Triumph. Bungie also plans Destiny Legacy, described by Deane as "the whole experience" adapted for current players. More details on both announcements will arrive in February, each featuring a new progress bar. A mystery third project was also teased.
Bungie is continuing development on Marathon, its extraction shooter that launched earlier this year. March 2027 could be a turning point for the game as it expands connected PvE, PvP, and PvEvP experiences alongside solo and crew options.
