EA announced a 400-person layoff across multiple studios, according to an internal memo reported by Bloomberg. The cuts affect Maxis, the developer of The Sims, Full Circle, which made Skate, and Ripple Effect, a co-developer of Battlefield 6 and Battlefield 2042. This follows EA's earlier shutdown of BioWare, which employed around 50 staff.
Anna Huerta, Maxis' senior creative director for The Sims, confirmed she was "impacted by today's restructuring," saying "I'm incredibly sad that I won't get to continue working alongside such talented people on projects we care so deeply about, but I'm looking forward to whatever comes next."
At Full Circle, John Epler, a seasonal creative director who previously spent 17 years at BioWare, confirmed the elimination of his role. Senior designer David Milne, senior gameplay designer Jason Payne, software engineer Jessia Coan, and development director Megan Lengle also lost their positions. Epler paid tribute to former colleagues, writing "I got to work with some incredibly talented people, and some incredibly talented teams."
Full Circle has already endured layoffs earlier this year. Ripple Effect's cuts were confirmed by character artist Corey Thomas, technical animator Juan Meza, and technical artist Turner Spring.
The report contains no indication that the studios or their games are being cancelled. Ripple Effect has worked on Battlefield Portal, the user-generated content platform for Battlefield 2042.
