A scam website called AO3.life has emerged during the Archive of Our Own outage, scraping cached versions of fanfictions and reposting them without author consent. The site claims to sell audiobook versions of the works and promises to pay authors 91 percent of proceeds, with 9 percent going to AO3.life itself. To receive payment or request removal, the site asks users to email from their AO3 account credentials. Security researchers and social media users have identified this as a phishing and doxxing scheme. The Organization for Transformative Works, AO3's parent non-profit, confirmed awareness of the scam and said it is taking legal action to shut down the site. "We are aware and are taking action, but please be patient because the legal system is much slower than online life," OTW stated in a message posted to the AO3 subreddit.
