Police in GTA 6 can dispatch dogs to chase down players, according to an Edge Magazine preview featuring Rockstar's Rob Nelson. In one sequence, when characters Jason and Lucia crash their motorcycle and flee on foot, nearby cops send a K9 unit, with a German Shepherd quickly pinning Jason to the ground. Developers present during the preview urged Nelson not to shoot the dog, implying that players can choose to shoot police dogs, similar to GTA 5.
Players can also pet or scold the dog in GTA 6. The game's police system is more advanced overall. GTA 6 features a six-star Wanted system and an expanded criminal profile system that tracks players with a wider net. Cops remember specific clothing Jason and Lucia wear, forcing players to change outfits to escape. The game also notifies players when CCTV cameras spot them, and they can destroy the evidence to evade pursuit.
A recent South Park episode contained new GTA 6 gameplay footage showing Jason throwing dog poop at another person.
GTA 6 launches November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar could release GTA 6 Online and a PC edition in early 2027.
