Funcom's survival MMO Dune: Awakening launches a free expansion called Blood and Ice on 1st December. The update adds around 35 hours of new progression, new vehicle modules, augments, and specialisation traits across PC, PS5, and Xbox.
The expansion introduces a new map called the Polar Sink, split into tundra and ice cap biomes. Players will manage temperature instead of heat protection, harvesting ice to cool base equipment and speed up production. The studio said the expansion "brings the focus back to ground-level survival, with traversal, temperature management, and combat all playing important roles in your progression".
Blood and Ice adds an Events tab to the main menu. A new event called Water Crisis will follow the current one, The Scourge. Funcom plans to run events more often, each with new stories and free rewards. Both single-player and multiplayer can complete every event.
Funcom launched a cosmetics store to fund continued development and free updates. The store will feature rotating selections, including looks from Dune films timed to Dune: Part Three's December cinema release. The full catalogue will eventually be available at all times.
Several community-requested features are coming. Offline single-player releases this month. From January 2027, players can copy characters from multiplayer servers to single-player, and from single-player to select private or self-hosted servers on PC. Full cross-play arrives in January 2027.
Funcom said the game has gained more than a million new players since console launch, alongside a rebuilt endgame, three DLCs, and the conclusion of the game's first story arc. The studio plans major free updates in 2027.
