Jagex has cancelled RuneScape Reignited, a controversial new character type that would have introduced its own separate economy to the MMO. The project was announced earlier this month alongside other major RuneScape updates, including plans for RuneScape 4, a new version built on Unreal Engine.
Reignited was designed to attract new players by offering a fresh economic system alongside the existing game world. The feature generated significant backlash from the RuneScape community, with players opposing the changes to the game's structure.
The cancellation comes rapidly after the announcement, suggesting the negative player reception played a role in Jagex's decision to scrap the plan. RuneScape 4 remains in development as a longer-term project for the franchise.
