STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl received update 2.1, which expands the A-Life system that simulates NPC behavior. The update lets players increase the distance at which A-Life NPCs are visualized and makes unplanned combat audible from further away. These NPCs wander the Zone, fight over faction territory, and gather for activities like campfire guitar sessions, independent of scripted events.
The game and its patch notes warn that raising the A-Life bubble beyond the default "Recommended" setting risks lower framerates, story quest instability, and crashes. Testing on Rock Paper Shotgun's hardware found the new A-Life distance options carry less performance risk than expected, though they may cause unusual behavior with binoculars.
Update 2.1 builds on the earlier 2.0 patch for the game.
