This is purely a UI overhaul, not the performance boost gamers actually need. The new interface supposedly streamlines access to games and Xbox Game Pass, but it changes nothing under the hood.
Windows 11 still struggles with gaming optimization compared to Windows 10. Frame rates don't improve. Load times don't shrink. DirectStorage implementation remains half-baked. Xbox mode simply repackages the existing experience with fresh menus and redesigned navigation. It's cosmetic window dressing masquerading as functional improvement.
The rollout started in select markets, suggesting a phased approach while Microsoft irons out whatever issues emerged during testing. That's standard practice, but it also signals this wasn't ready for global launch.
Gamers deserve actual technical improvements. Better CPU scheduling. Reduced input lag. Proper background process management. Instead, Microsoft offers a skin. Xbox mode will appeal to players who want faster Game Pass access from their desktop. Everyone else gets nothing of substance.
