Atuel is a free, 25-minute walking simulator where you play as water, clouds, and local wildlife flowing through the Patagonian landscapes of Argentina's Atuel River. Developer Matajuegos built the game as a "documentary game" grounded in the real Atuel River's geography and history. Throughout the journey, real-life scientists and historians discuss the river's relationship with local human cultures.

Partway through, Atuel shifts from serene freshwater scenery into wildfires and dried riverbeds to address the climate crisis. The game balances depictions of Earth's beauty with environmental concerns, ending on a hopeful note. The experience features an understated, naturally-textured soundtrack and gradual camera zoom-outs that reveal the Andes' landscape. You can download Atuel for free on Steam and Itch.io, with a pay-what-you-want option available on Itch.io.
