Sucker Punch Productions confirmed a major expansion for Ghost of Tsushima coming this fall, priced at $15. The DLC introduces a new location to the open-world samurai game alongside fresh story missions and a roguelike mode.
Ghost of Tsushima launched in July 2020 on PlayStation 4, becoming one of Sony's strongest exclusive launches that generation. The game sold over 9.5 million copies worldwide and expanded to PS5 in 2021, then reached PC in May 2024. That PC version saw strong adoption, averaging over 68,000 concurrent players on Steam at launch.
This expansion represents substantial post-launch content for a game that already shipped with significant depth. The new location expands Sucker Punch's recreation of 13th century Japan beyond the existing Tsushima island setting. New story missions will extend the game's narrative, which previously focused on protagonist Jin Sakai's journey during the Mongol invasion.
The roguelike mode signals a departure from the base game's structure. Players can expect procedural runs with escalating difficulty, permanent consequences for failure, and randomized rewards. This mode type has proven popular across genres, from Hades to Returnal. For Ghost of Tsushima, it likely emphasizes combat encounters and samurai duels rather than narrative progression.
The $15 price point falls in line with substantial expansion pricing. Comparable DLC like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's planned episodes typically cost $15 to $20. Ghost of Tsushima's previous DLC, Iki Island (2020), launched as a $19.99 standalone expansion for PS4/PS5 owners.
