Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick believes game streaming will solve the industry's hardware cost crisis within three years. Speaking on the company's latest investor call, Zelnick predicted that consumers will embrace streaming gameplay from remote servers, eliminating the need for expensive local gaming hardware.
"Machines that weren't game machines before will become game machines," Zelnick stated, suggesting that smartphones, tablets, and other consumer devices will handle gaming through streaming rather than dedicated consoles or high-end PCs.
The prediction addresses a real market problem. Gaming hardware prices have surged due to component shortages and inflation. Next-gen consoles launched at premium prices, while PC gaming now demands expensive GPUs to run modern titles at acceptable frame rates. This pricing barrier locks out budget-conscious players.
Zelnick's three-year timeline aligns with improving internet infrastructure and reduced latency in cloud gaming tech.
