Owlcat Games has finally resolved the technical issues plaguing Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader on Nintendo Switch 2. The turn-based RPG launched in December 2023 across PC and consoles, arriving alongside Baldur's Gate 3. The Switch 2 port, however, shipped in a broken state that made the game unplayable for months.

The update brings the handheld version to functional parity with other platforms. Rogue Trader puts players in command of a Rogue Trader spaceship, commanding crews and engaging in tactical combat across the grimdark Warhammer 40K universe. It's built on a similar template to Owlcat's successful Baldur's Gate 3 adaptation, using turn-based mechanics that theoretically suit portable play.

The timing matters. When Rogue Trader launched last year, it faced inevitable comparisons to Baldur's Gate 3, the industry juggernaut that redefined player expectations for faithful tabletop-to-digital conversions. Rogue Trader carved out its own audience with deep character progression and Warhammer's brutal aesthetic, but Switch players missed the launch window entirely.

Owlcat has a track record of supporting Warhammer properties.
